Our Commitment to Sustainability

Fresherized Foods works diligently to run an efficient business that takes care of our employees and the communities where we operate, while producing a healthy and delicious product for our customers to enjoy. These values have been at the core of our operations since our inception in 1989, but we sought to formalize our commitment to sustainability in 2009. This document is intended to introduce you to our company’s mission and our newly launched sustainability program, goals, and achievements.

Sustainability is a journey, and we are excited to be starting ours! Please check back for regular updates.

Current Sustainability Efforts

Fresherized Foods began its sustainability program in 2009 with the hiring of its Director of Sustainability, Marcela Maltos. Since then, we have developed a sustainability strategy and have identified eight projects to complete by mid-2011 to build a comprehensive sustainability program.

Creating a Performance Framework for Sustainability

Select relevant indicators from the Global Reporting Initiative framework and corresponding Food Processing Sector Supplement to track and use when disclosing sustainability performance.

Build a sustainability management system, with a “dashboard” for internal and external reporting.

Set goals and performance targets for metrics within the sustainability dashboard.

Determining Our Carbon Consequences

Conduct a comprehensive carbon footprint for the full life cycle of our product.

Evaluate and disclose our climate risk through the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Communicating Our Sustainability Performance

Develop a regular employee newsletter to report on sustainability initiatives and progress to all staff.

Create an informational sheet for customers, outlining our sustainability goals and performance.

Provide detailed responses to particular customers via their sustainability questionnaires or other reporting structure.
